About Market Square in Kłobuck

a medieval trading square with a stone surface, a monument to Długosz and a well

The Market Square (Rynek) in Kłobuck is the main square of the town, which was created in the 14th century next to the church of Saints Martin and Margaret. After the reconstruction of 2009-2010 it has a stone surface laid in the form of an amphitheatre.

Where the square came from

It was the main element of the town's layout and a place of trade: weekly markets were held here on Tuesdays, as well as three fairs a year of regional importance. The square has an irregular quadrilateral shape, because it changed over the centuries. The wooden buildings burned in 1457, 1469 and 1689, and after 1826 building in wood was banned.

What it looks like today

After wartime destruction and post-war development the square lost its historical character. In 2005 the town announced an architectural competition, and the winning design was carried out in 2009-2010. In the southern part stand a monument to Jan Długosz and a well. By the square is the building of the county office, and the church is separated from it by a high wall.

Nearby

About a kilometre from here is the Tradition Room of the State Fire Service, and it is about 4.5 km to the Zamczysko reserve.
