A square in the centre of Tarnowskie Góry by Sienkiewicza and Sobieskiego streets, laid out as a children's playground since the 1960s, with new equipment after renovation.
Society of Friends of Children Square (Plac Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Dzieci) is a pedestrian square in the centre of Tarnowskie Góry, at the junction of Sienkiewicza and Sobieskiego streets. Since the 1960s it has served as a playground and a place to rest near the town hall.
The site was occupied by a former garden next to the building of the Bytom-Tarnowskie Góry county office. In the 1960s it was turned into a children's playground.
In 1963 the town of Bytom gave Tarnowskie Góry two brown bears, Kubuś and Małgosia, which lived on the square. In 1987-2009 a world clock also stood here, a gift from the partner town of Bernburg (Saale). The square was named in 2010 by the town council, after the nationwide organisation supporting children.
The square is a pedestrian zone with benches, flower beds and greenery. A renovation in 2008-2009 brought a new surface, lighting and a fountain, and a further one, completed in 2024, brought a new playground, an outdoor gym, toilets and a fountain in the shape of a globe. Earlier the square had, among other things, swings, a roundabout, a slide, a table tennis table and sandpits.
By the square stand the town hall, the post office building and the headquarters of the municipal guard. On foot, in under half a kilometre, you reach the Museum in Tarnowskie Góry, and the market square with Gwarków Square is a few hundred metres further.
