A disused war cemetery from 1945 where 5,896 Red Army soldiers are buried, on the site of a former Jewish cemetery.
The Soviet Soldiers' Cemetery in Wodzisław Śląski lies on Targowa Street, on a hill called Żydowina. It was established in 1945, and 5,896 Red Army soldiers are buried there. Today it is a disused cemetery.
The central element is a monument from 1961. The site also holds a monument to Soviet soldiers moved from the market square in Pszów, a commemorative plaque dedicated to Colonel Ivan Prokopyevich Amvrosov and a grave of nineteen Czechoslovak soldiers.
A Jewish cemetery had earlier stood on this spot, used from 1814 until the Second World War and destroyed by the Germans. Steps from that period have survived, and in front of them in 2012 a monument commemorating the Jewish residents of Wodzisław was unveiled.
