An inanimate-nature reserve on the limestone hill Zielona Góra near Kusięta, within the Eagles' Nests Landscape Park.
The Zielona Góra Nature Reserve protects a limestone hill 343 m above sea level near the village of Kusięta, in the municipality of Olsztyn. It is an inanimate-nature reserve, and its most characteristic elements are rocks and karst forms.
The reserve lies in the Mirów-Olsztyn Upland, within the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland (Polish Jura), in the Olsztyn-Mirów Refuge area and within the boundaries of the Eagles' Nests Landscape Park. The Trail of the Eagles' Nests runs through its territory.
It was established in 1953 on an area of 18.39 ha, and in 1963 it was enlarged to 19.66 ha. The size now given is 19.36 ha. The whole area is under strict protection, so it is worth checking the rules for moving around the reserve before your visit.
Karst forms occur on the hill. The largest of them is the Cave in Zielona Góra, 150 m long, in which an accumulation of stalagmite columns is characteristic. Next to it is the Shelter below the summit of Zielona Góra, also known as the shelter below the summit of Zielona Góra.
The hill is also decorated with numerous limestone rocks. Several of them, such as Kowadło, Podkowadle, Płetwa and Zielona Góra itself, are rock-climbing sites.
Protection here covers thermophilous grassland and scrub vegetation as well as forest, that is, beech woodland and oak-hornbeam forest. The grasslands grow on limestone ground, and the forests cover the lower parts of the hill.
About 4 km from the reserve stands the castle in Olsztyn near Częstochowa, another point on the Trail of the Eagles' Nests. A similar distance away is the Shrine of St Padre Pio on Przeprosna Górka.
