Katowice
About Alojzy Budniok Park in Katowice

A 4.5 ha park in Katowice's Koszutka district, with a playground, pitches and old trees.

Alojzy Budniok Park lies in Katowice's Koszutka district, between ul. Chorzowska and ul. Stęślickiego. It covers 4.5 hectares and combines walking paths, a playground and football pitches.

What the park consists of

The area is divided into three parts: a park with paths, a playground (formerly with a skatepark) and two pitches. One of them, full-size, is called Rapid Stadium and was built in 2006 as a training facility for class A and B teams. In 2011, after modernisation, two playgrounds, a cycling facility and a fitness zone were added. In the greenery grows a group of old ornamental trees, fruit trees and shrubs.

Origin of the name and history

The park was laid out in the mid-20th century. Its present name was given by a city council resolution of 24 November 1983, in honour of Alojzy Budniok, a Silesian sports activist. In 2011 it was formally redesignated from a square to a park.
