About Anton Uthemann Park in Katowice

A housing-estate park in Szopienice-Burowiec with a playground, established in 2014 and named after the creator of Giszowiec and Nikiszowiec.

Anton Uthemann Park is a small neighbourhood park in Szopienice-Burowiec, on Wiosny Ludów Street, right by the Szopienice tram terminus. It was created in 2014.

Where the park's name comes from

The park is named after Anton Uthemann, general director of the company Georg von Giesches Erben. Uthemann was the creator of two company housing estates, Giszowiec and Nikiszowiec. Nikiszowiec lies about 2.7 km from here.

How it came about

The creation of a park in Drugie Szopienice was requested on 24 April 2014 by the editors of the portal szopienice.org, and the idea was supported by the Szopienice-Burowiec Auxiliary Unit Council. The Municipal Greenery Department settled the tender for the redevelopment of the site in September 2014, and the work lasted until the end of November. The city councillors established the park on 17 December 2014.

What is in the park

The park has paths with a gravel surface, benches and bins, and play, sports and educational equipment, including a playground. The park serves residents of the surrounding estates for a short walk and play.

In the district it is also worth visiting the Rolling Mill, that is the Museum of Zinc Metallurgy, about 1.7 km away.
