A modernist cultural centre in Zabrze opened in 1959, with an auditorium of good acoustics and charity concerts since 1992.
The House of Music and Dance (Dom Muzyki i Tańca) in Zabrze is a modernist building at ul. gen. de Gaulle'a 17, opened on 4 December 1959. Its auditorium is among the largest in Poland and is known for its good acoustic parameters.
Construction took place in 1954-1959, and the designers were Zygmunt Majerski and Julian Duchowicz. The style of the building is described as socialist modernism. The hall has nearly two thousand seats, and sources give two similar figures: 1,970 and 2,008. The seating plan is available on the cultural centre's website.
On its website the cultural centre announces theatre, opera, concerts, cinema and cabaret. Since 1992 the charity concerts “Serce za serce” (“Heart for Heart”) of the Zbigniew Religa Foundation for the Development of Cardiac Surgery have been held here, in which Plácido Domingo, José Carreras and Chris de Burgh, among others, have performed. Check the programme directly with the organiser.
From the building it is close to several Zabrze sites, for example the Municipal Botanical Garden, which lies about 1.2 km away.
