A PTTK mountain hut from 1926 on the summit of Błatnia in the Silesian Beskids, with 50 beds.
The PTTK mountain hut on Błatnia stands in the Silesian Beskids, on the summit of Błatnia, within the boundaries of Brenna, at an altitude of nearly 900 m above sea level. It was built in 1925-1926. The official opening took place on 23 May 1926.
The building was put up by the German tourist association “Friends of Nature” (Touristen-Verein “Naturfreunde”) from Aleksandrowice. The builder was the carpenter Jan Krechut from Jaworze. The hut had about 50 beds, 20 of them in bunks.
In 1930 the Bielsko circle of the Polish Tatra Society bought a plot nearby in order to build its own hut. Mainly for financial reasons the Polish hut was never built, because the branch concentrated on building the “Dworzec Beskidzki” hut in Zwardoń.
During the Second World War the Germans took over the building for military purposes. In the winter of 1944/1945 they devastated it and used the demolition material to build nearby field fortifications.
After the war the Polish Tatra Society took over the ruined hut and began to rebuild it with materials from an outbuilding. It reopened as early as August 1945. In 1946 it had 15 beds in four rooms.
In 1959-1962 the hut was extended under the care of the Cieszyn branch of PTTK. Another major renovation took place in 1965-1968. The present dining room was created then, the kitchen and sanitary facilities were modernised, electricity and central heating were installed, and the building received a new roof. In 2005 the asbestos-cement panels were removed from the walls and replaced with wooden cladding.
Trails lead to the hut from Jaworze, from Bielsko-Biała Wapienica and from Brenna, and one connects it with the hut on Równica. The route from Jaworze continues via Stołów and Trzy Kopce to Klimczok and to the hut on Szyndzielnia. In the area there is also Chata Wuja Toma.
The hut's website has an online camera, as well as a trail map and a panorama of the area.
