A spa town at the foot of the Silesian Beskids, with cable cars to Czantoria, museums and trails.
Ustroń is a spa town in Cieszyn County, at the northern foot of the Silesian Beskids, at the mouth of the Vistula valley. The centre lies at an altitude of about 360 m above sea level, and above the town rise Równica (884 m) and Czantoria Wielka (995 m).
The first mention of the settlement dates from around 1305. In 1772 the first ironworks in the Duchy of Cieszyn was started here, in 1839 Ustroń Dolny and Górny were joined into one village, and in 1888 the railway arrived. The town received its charter in 1956, and in 1967 construction of a sanatorium complex in Zawodzie began. Ustroń is one of two spa towns in the Silesian Voivodeship.
Trails lead from the town to Równica and Czantoria Wielka, including a section of the Main Beskid Trail (red). A cable car also goes up Czantoria. At the foot of the mountain lies the Czantoria nature reserve. On the slopes there are the Palenica cable car and the Poniwiec Mała Czantoria resort.
The monuments include the Church of St Clement from 1787 and the Evangelical Church of St James the Elder from 1835. The town has the Stara Zagroda Regional Museum and the Jan Jarocki Ustroń Museum. For families there is the Forest Park of Surprises, where wild boar, deer, roe deer and mouflon roam freely.
