A municipal cultural institution in Czeladź in a building from 1912, with a performance hall, a cinema, studios and a café.
The Henryk Kuźniak Mine of Culture (Kopalnia Kultury) is a municipal cultural institution in Czeladź, in the Piaski district. It is located at Stanisława Trznadla 1, in a building that served the workers of the local mine from 1912.
The building was erected in 1912 as a canteen for the workers of the "Czeladź" mine. Seven years later it was taken over by the Polish Gymnastic Society "Sokół", Piaski Nest, which gave rise to the colloquial name Sokolnia.
In June 1945 a common room was set up in it, and later the mine's Miners' Club. In the early 1960s, on part of the foundations of the old Sokolnia, construction of a culture centre began. The works' House of Culture was handed over to the workforce on 22 July 1965.
In 1983 the Youth Entertainment Centre and the "Piaski" cinema opened here. After the mine was closed down in the 1990s, the building was taken over by the municipality. It housed in turn a club with discos, an entertainment centre and a skatepark. Activity ended in 2011. The history was compiled by the Saturn Museum in Czeladź.
The institution was established by a resolution of the Czeladź City Council of 26 March 2025. Facilities include a performance hall hosting concerts, plays and film screenings, three ballet studios, an art room, three rehearsal rooms and a recording studio.
The programme includes cinema, plays, exhibitions, workshops and regular classes for children, young people, adults and seniors. The building has a café, "Fabrykawka".
For a longer day out, there is Będzin Castle, about 3.6 km from here.
