A square in Racibórz on the site of the former Great Gate, with an area of about 65 ares, natural monuments and eclectic architecture.
Wolności Square lies in Racibórz about 400 metres from the Market Square, on Wojska Polskiego, Miarki, Londzina, Drewniana, Gimnazjalna and Długa streets. It has an area of about 65 ares.
Until 1818 the Great Gate (Brama Wielka) stood here. From 1817 a livestock market was held on the square, moved elsewhere in 1880. In the past the square was called, among other names, Holzmarkt and Zwingerplatz, and from 1884 officially Polko-Platz, after Adolf Polko, who bought tenement house no. 13 in 1870. In the 1930s it bore the name Horst-Wessel-Platz, and after 1945 the Nazi symbols were removed. In 2005-2006 the junction was rebuilt as a roundabout.
The tenement houses by the square are eclectic, with Neo-Renaissance elements. Natural monuments grow on the square: a thornless honey locust and a ginkgo, and there is also a granite erratic boulder set up on 6 June 1934, described separately as the erratic boulder on Wolności Square.
It is about half a kilometre to Racibórz Castle. Two trails pass through the square: the Polish Minority Schools Trail and the Polish Hussars Trail.
