Nature in Lipie means three reserves in Kłobuck County: limestone Szachownica with its cave, tiny Bukowa Góra and the oak woods of Stawiska.
All three reserves lie in the commune of Lipie, next to the Załęcze Landscape Park, so they combine easily into one trip across the northern edge of the Silesian Voivodeship. They suit anyone who prefers forest and geology to ready-made facilities.
The best known is Szachownica Nature Reserve, a geological reserve covering 12.7 ha since 1978. Its limestone hill, Krzemienna Góra, hides a cave that bats use as winter quarters, and everything lies in the buffer zone of the landscape park.
Bukowa Góra Nature Reserve is the smallest nature reserve in the entire voivodeship, and the only strict one within the park's boundaries. It was set up in 1959 for a patch of lowland acidophilous beech forest with fir. Being strict, it exists mainly to protect the woodland.
At Stawiska Nature Reserve, near Parzymiechy, lowland hornbeam forest grows beside riverside woods along a small stream. The reserve keeps 85 veteran pedunculate oaks aged roughly 200 to 500 years, and the ground is very wet.
For the wider picture see nature in Silesia, while neighbouring spots in the commune are grouped under Lipie.
