Things to do in Tworków: the ruined Wiskota palace, a crypt beneath a late 17th-century church, a woodland church and a clinker-brick mill from 1914.

Tworków in the Racibórz county has a longer past than its size suggests: the first mention of a church dates from 1339. The four places form an easy stroll, and each comes from a different era.

From a Gothic stronghold to a ruin: what is left of the palace in Tworków?

In 1557 Kasper Wiskota von Wodnik bought the estate and in 1567 raised a family seat on the site of a medieval stronghold. After the Lichnowski family enlarged it in 1621-1637, the building lasted until the fires of 1931 and 1945. The palace is a registered monument, has belonged to the Krzyżanowice municipality since 2004, and its surviving tower stands next to the park.

Which churches in Tworków are the oldest?

After the fire of 2 May 1676 the parish made do with a temporary building for some years, and in 1691-1694 the Church of Saints Peter and Paul rose at Główna 17. The Reisswitz family rests beneath it. A wooden church of 1303 preceded St Urban's Church of 1779; a tower was added in 1869 and the building was renovated in 2007.

Watermills have stood at Młyńska 7 since 1703. The present mill of 1914 was driven by a turbine, a combustion engine joined it in 1927 and an electric one in 1948. Grain is still ground here.
