Things to do in Złoty Potok: the poet Krasiński's manor museum, the park of the Raczyński palace, a 15th-century church and an obelisk for tenor Jan Kiepura.
Złoty Potok lies in the Janów municipality, in the heart of the Jura. The places stand near each other and share two noble families and two famous residents: a poet and a singer.
Who lived in Złoty Potok, and what remains of them?
From May to 20 September 1857 Zygmunt Krasiński lived in the manor beside the palace. Today the building holds a regional museum that opened in 2008 and answers to the Janów municipal office and the minister of culture. Another route to the poet and the area is the article Złoty Potok: Krasiński nazywa skały, a dąb Dziad pamięta wieki (in Polish).
When the family of the future tenor moved to Janów for three years in 1905, Jan Kiepura and his brother attended a nursery looked after by Countess Raczyńska. The marble obelisk was unveiled in 2002, on the centenary of the artist's birth.
How to see the palace complex and the church
A manor known as Zameczek had stood here since the 16th century, and the present palace is a classicist rebuilding of 1856. Its technical condition is poor, so you cannot go inside, but you can walk round the forty-hectare park. St John the Baptist's Church at Klonowa 2 served as a Protestant meeting house in the late 16th century, and Catholics regained it in 1601.
