Things to do in Korbielów: Pilsko with its nature reserve and mountain hut, two ski areas, Hala Malorka meadow and a motorcycle museum.

Korbielów lies at the foot of Pilsko, one of the highest peaks of the Żywiec Beskids, and lives off the mountains all year round. Summer brings meadows and trails, winter brings ski slopes. There are also a few places for a day without good weather.

What to see in the mountains around Korbielów

Three stops: the Pilsko Nature Reserve, the PTTK hut on Hala Miziowa and the scenic Hala Malorka. Each lies at a different height, so you can match a trip to your fitness.

The hut on Hala Miziowa stands on the slopes of Pilsko, beside the Main Beskid Trail, and is the base for climbing the summit. A new building opened in 2003, half a century after the old one burned. The Pilsko reserve covers more than a hundred hectares and protects upper montane spruce forest and dwarf pine on the summit parts of the massif. It began in 1971, when the earlier part covered fifteen hectares where spruces older than three hundred years grew. Hala Malorka is a former grazing meadow above Hala Uszczawne, now a large clearing with a viewpoint towards Pilsko and Babia Góra. The area is also covered in an article, Pilsko and Korbielów: the border ridge, reserves and meadows.

Where to ski in Korbielów

You have two choices: the large Pilsko Ski Resort and the small Baba ski area in Korbielów-Kamienna. The first is a complex of runs on the north-eastern slopes of Pilsko, the second a very modest, easy offer for beginners.

Pilsko has a traditional mountain character. Its base lies in Korbielów-Kamienna, some runs are artificially snowed, and only those below Solisko are lit. Baba has a two-seat chairlift nine hundred metres long and one lit run of blue difficulty, with a service point and equipment rental. A list of ideas for skiers is in solo trip ideas in Korbielów.

What to do in Korbielów without good weather

Drop in at the Muzeum Motóra at Dominikańska 1. It is a community museum of motorcycles and equipment from the communist era, beside the Dominican monastery. You will see Komar, Romet, Jawa, CZ 350, Simson SR2, WSK 125, MZ ETZ and SHL machines, along with old household and electronic devices.

The collection grew out of the initiative of enthusiasts and keeps growing. Check opening days before you go, because it is a small community museum.
