Things to do in Miasteczko Śląskie: a wooden church from 1666, Rubin Park, a Neo-Gothic church and the Leśno Rajza cycling network.

Miasteczko Śląskie lies in the north of the Silesian Voivodeship, in the Tarnowskie Góry county. Beside the market square with its wooden church there is a park on former mine workings, traces of a former Jewish community and cycling routes through forests. Most places can be visited free of charge.

Which church in Miasteczko Śląskie should you see first?

Begin with the wooden Church of St George by the market square. It was built in 1666 and consecrated on 8 May 1670, and its belfry stands within the enclosure. It belongs to the regional route of timber buildings and is a branch church in the Żyglin deanery of the Gliwice diocese.

Right next to it, on Dworcowa Street, you will see the Church of the Assumption. Oskar Hoßfeld designed this brick Neo-Gothic building, put up in 1905-1908 and listed as a monument. In Żyglin, a district of the town, you will find the Church of the Nativity at Śląska 40, from 1840-1842, built of limestone and brick with Baroque elements from the earlier church. It stands in the highest part of Żyglin and is the landmark of the village. See also churches and monasteries in Miasteczko Śląskie.

Where can you walk or cycle in Miasteczko Śląskie?

Rubin Park on Rubinowa Street was laid out in 1880-1900 on the site of former calamine and iron ochre workings. The terrain is varied, and the park has a restored villa, a stage and viewpoints. The name comes from a wealthy doctor, Ryszard Rubin, who bought the land from a local resident.

Cyclists have Leśno Rajza, a network of routes in the municipalities of Kalety, Miasteczko Śląskie, Woźniki, Koszęcin, Tworóg and nearby, created jointly by six municipalities. The main loop is about 90 kilometres, and with access routes the network reaches about 110 kilometres. It is marked with a green LR symbol.

What in Miasteczko Śląskie recalls the former Jewish community?

The former synagogue of 1862-1863 stood at Piwna 2. In 1923 it was turned into a residential building, and its heavily rebuilt form survives, so it can be seen only from the street. The Jewish cemetery was founded on a small rise near Niepodległości Street in 1879 or 1880. It is no longer in use; fragments of the fence and a few gravestones remain. Keep quiet there.
