Things to do in Radlin: a salt graduation tower, a church with 56-metre towers and the early 20th-century workers' estate Kolonia Emma.

Radlin adjoins Rybnik and shows the industrial story of Upper Silesia: miners' housing, churches from the town's growth years and a newer graduation tower. It all fits within a few districts.

Where to breathe salt air in Radlin

The salt graduation tower stands in the north of the town on Wypandów street, right by the Rybnik border. The wooden structure measures 3.95 m by 24 m, and the brine is brought in from outside. The town describes it as the first graduation tower in the industrial area of Upper Silesia. More about such places in the article Tężnie solankowe i pijalnie wód na Śląsku (in Polish).

Which historic sites in Radlin are worth seeing?

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Biertułtowy district is neo-baroque, dates from 1926-1928 and has towers 56 metres high. Kolonia Emma in the Marcel district is an estate built for mine workers in two stages: in 1897 and in 1910-1913. The younger part echoes the garden-city idea.

What memorial site is there in Radlin?

In 1939-1945 the former shaft of the “Reden” mine was a place of murder: the occupiers threw captured local residents into the disused shaft. Today a monument commemorating the victims stands on the shaft site.
