Things to do in Lipowa: a mountain hut below Skrzyczne, the Malinowska Skała rock and a neo-Gothic church in one Silesian Beskids village.
Lipowa lies in the Żywiec county and suits a day in the mountains with a short stop at a historic building. Four places stand out: a mountain hut, a rock outcrop beside the trail, a brick parish church and the wider Silesian Beskids range.
What to see in Lipowa in one day
The mountain part of the day belongs to the PTTK Mountain Hut on Skrzyczne, standing just below the summit at 1,250 m above sea level, and to Malinowska Skała. For a change you can step into the village church and set it all against the landscape of the whole range.
The hut has a history going back to 1933, when Rudolf Urbanke built a wooden lodge for thirty guests. The summit of Skrzyczne is easy to reach from Szczyrk, because a two-stage chairlift runs up to it. Malinowska Skała is a conglomerate outcrop about 60 m north of the summit of the same name, a protected natural monument since 1977.
The Church of St Bartholomew is a neo-Gothic brick building from 1894-1897 with a triptych from the second half of the 16th century. For the bigger picture of the mountains see the Silesian Beskids, topped by Skrzyczne (1,257 m) and Barania Góra, on whose slope the Vistula springs.
