Things to do in Wilkowice: huts on Magurka and Rogacz in the Little Beskids, and in the other Wilkowice a family park and a Baroque palace.
Two different places in the Silesian Voivodeship share the name Wilkowice: a village near Bielsko-Biała in the Little Beskids and a village in the Zbrosławice commune in Upper Silesia. The five sites on the list are split between them, so check where your destination lies before setting out.
What is there to see in Wilkowice near Bielsko-Biała?
The PTTK Mountain Hut on Magurka Wilkowicka rises above Wilkowice on a western spur of the Little Beskids (909 m). A wooden first version opened in 1903 on the initiative of hikers from the German section in Bielsko, and the brick building you see today has stood since 1913. Today it is named after the tourism activist Józef Grzybowski and belongs to the PTTK.
Lower down the trail passes Chatka na Rogaczu, set in a glade beneath the summit of Rogacz, around 685 m. It occupies the old lodge of Baron Adolf von Klobus's gamekeeper and works as cheap lodging for students and hikers. The official opening took place on 3 November 1968, after efforts by the "Gronie" Academic Tourist Club from Katowice. The way from Wilkowice to Magurka runs right through here.
Along the blue-marked path linking Magurka Wilkowicka with Czupel, at roughly 900 metres, lie the ruins of the "Widok na Tatry" hut. Karol Sikora of Łodygowice built the wooden building with a veranda before 1914, and it burned down in 1967. Only traces of the foundations remain, so it makes a short stop along a hike. Ideas for two are in for couples in Wilkowice.
What is there to see in Wilkowice in the Zbrosławice commune?
In the other Wilkowice, on the grounds of the Family Entertainment Centre, there is the Adventure and Attractions Park. The seasonal park covers several hectares and is meant for families with children. It has a playground for the youngest, a rope park, a barefoot path, an outdoor gym and two stocked ponds, and the Park Menagerie houses domestic and exotic animals.
Next to the park, at ulica Księżoleśna 1, stands the palace. This eighteenth-century Baroque building has stone walls and stands in a landscape park among the outbuildings of an old manor farm. The palace is listed as a monument and is being restored after years of damage. Its construction is linked to the Larisch family. Walking routes for solo travellers are collected in what to do alone in Wilkowice.
