What to see in Rychwałd? A Baroque basilica with a miraculous image, a wooden chapel made of 16th-century beams and a classicist manor with a park.

Rychwałd lies in the municipality of Gilowice in Żywiec County. The main destination is the Marian shrine, but the chapel and the manor are worth adding, as all three sites are a short walk apart.

What can you see at the shrine and around it?

The Basilica of St Nicholas and Sanctuary of Our Lady of Rychwałd is a Baroque church from 1756 that houses a miraculous image of Mary with the Child. The parish dates from 1472, and Pope Francis gave the church the title of minor basilica in 2017.

Right next to it stands the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was built in 1756 from timber older than anything around it: the wall beams date from 1507 and the roof frame from 1508. The chapel lies on the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesian Voivodeship.

The Manor House Complex on Spacerowa Street consists of a classicist manor from 1830 with a portico, two historic farm buildings and a two-hectare park. It now serves as a hotel and leisure venue, so you see the manor from the street or as a guest.

The article Cztery sanktuaria maryjne: Leśniów, Rychwałd, Hałcnów i Szczyrk (in Polish) describes four Marian shrines of the region, Rychwałd among them.
