Solo in Ryczów: the ruins of a medieval watchtower, a cave in the Ruskie Góry Gorge and a rock shelter under Kosia Rock. Jura corners for a lone walk.
Ryczów lies in the Ogrodzieniec municipality, on the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. All three places are tied to rock, limestone and woodland.
What to look at in Ryczów when walking alone?
The ruin of a defensive structure stands on a rock called Strażnica: the Ryczów Watchtower. It was probably built in the late fourteenth century, and what survives is scraps of wall and an embankment around one and a half metres tall. The text Biała Dama, Czarny Pies i skarby tells of the castles of the Jura.
The cave in Straszykowa Góra measures about one hundred and fifty metres in the Ruskie Góry Gorge and contains dripstone discovered in 1984. It is privately owned, so treat it as a local curiosity, not a place to enter. A tiny cave shelter is the Upper Shelter in Kosia Góra: a low chamber and a narrow passage under the overhang of Kosia Rock. Other suggestions for solo travellers are collected under solo, and the village has its page: Ryczów.
