Churches and monasteries in Dąb, Katowice: the brick Church of Saints John and Paul, St Barbara's Chapel by Silesia City Center and a neo-Gothic shrine of 1893.

Three brick sacred buildings in the Katowice district of Dąb tie in with the industrial past of the area, and two are linked to coal mines.

What does the main church in Dąb look like?

The Church of Saints John and Paul at Chorzowska 160 was begun in 1901 on the site of an older church. It is a brick Neo-Romanesque building entered in the monument register, designed by Ludwig Schneider.

What is left of the mines?

St Barbara's Chapel stands at Chorzowska 111, right next to the shopping centre. The brick building of 1920 was the shaft engine house of the Eminenz mine, later Gottwald. The mining field was granted in 1903, and construction of the mine began on 1 July 1904.

At the corner of Dębowa and Źródlana streets stands the chapel of Our Lady from 1893, finished in clinker brick on a hexagonal plan and entered in the monument register. Antoni and Józefa Kracla built it on their own land; they were hauling slag from the Ferdinand mine. It is older than the parish of Dąb.
