Parks and nature in Sopotnia Wielka: the Pod Rysianką and Romanka reserves and Hala Cebulowa on the Pilsko ridge in the Żywiec Beskids.
Three places of mountain nature protect old upland forests and rare meadow plants. They lie high up, so a mountain trip needs preparation.
The Pod Rysianką Reserve was created in 1970 on the north-eastern slopes of the saddle between Rysianka and Trzy Kopce. A forest where firs, spruces and beeches mix grows on 27 hectares, in the Jeleśnia commune, between 950 and 1170 metres.
The older Romanka Reserve has existed since 1963 around the summit of Romanka. Its subject is a stand of old spruce typical of the upper montane belt, spread over 124.5 hectares. The oldest trees are 150 to 200 years old, and ferns in the undergrowth stand taller than one and a half metres.
Hala Cebulowa, once pasture for herdsmen, lies on the northern ridge of Pilsko, roughly 1280-1308 metres above sea level. Siberian garlic grows there in masses and gave the meadow its name. The rare felwort known as niebielistka and the globeflower also grow there.
Yes, administratively it belongs to the village of Sopotnia Wielka in the Jeleśnia commune.
