Churches and monasteries in Pszów include a Baroque basilica of Our Lady Smiling, the Pszów Calvary and a neo-Baroque church in Krzyżkowice.

Pszów has drawn pilgrims for centuries, and its three churches tell of that tradition from different sides: a Baroque basilica, a set of Way of the Cross chapels and a district church of the 1930s.

Why is the basilica the heart of pilgrimage in Pszów?

Standing at Bohaterów Westerplatte 2, the Basilica of the Nativity is both a Baroque minor basilica and a Marian shrine, the home of the image of Our Lady Smiling. Already in the eighteenth century pilgrims came here from Upper and Lower Silesia, Poland and Moravia. The old church could not hold the faithful, so in 1743 it was decided to build a new one. Pilgrimage is the subject of a text on pilgrims and the Pszów Calvary.

How did the Calvary and the church in Krzyżkowice come about?

The Pszów Calvary is a set of Way of the Cross chapels entered in the register of monuments and consecrated on 1 September 1929. Fr Bruno Laska began the work in 1907: first came oak posts with paintings, and by 1911 three chapels were ready. Out in Krzyżkowice, by Armii Krajowej Street, you will find the Sacred Heart church, a one-tower neo-Baroque building of 1934 whose builder was Walenty Maciejek. To continue, open things to do in Pszów; comparable sacred buildings elsewhere appear under churches and monasteries in Silesia.
