Churches and monasteries in Sławków: one medieval parish church on Kościelna street and two small chapels, dedicated to St Mark and St James.

All three sacred buildings belong to a single parish. The oldest was raised in the 13th century, and the chapels date from the first half of the 19th.

What sets the oldest church in Sławków apart?

The Holy Cross and St Nicholas church was built in 1255-1265 at Kościelna 26. Its most valuable part is the brick chancel, in a manner mixing Romanesque with Gothic. Bishop Jan Prandota is thought to be the founder. Medieval paintings remain in the nave.

Where are the chapels?

St Mark's Chapel serves the graveyard. Before the present masonry building stood a wooden chapel known from a record of 1602. Inside, note the altar of 1632 and the illusionistic wall painting.

St James's Chapel arose in 1827 on the empty site of a church of St John and a Hospitallers' monastery, which Bishop Jan Muskata founded in 1298 and hired soldiers wrecked in 1455. A crypt lies beneath the chapel.
