the oldest building in Sosnowiec, a former fortified manor from the 15th-17th centuries, today an art and photography centre

Castles in Sosnowiec means Sielecki Castle, the oldest building in town, and three palaces of the Dietel and Schön families from around 1900.

Sielecki is the only castle here, and the rest are industrialists' residences, some of which serve public functions today.

Which castle and palaces in Sosnowiec should you see?

Sielecki Castle on the Czarna Przemsza in the Sielec district is the oldest building in town; originally a fortified manor, it was rebuilt in 1620 and 1832 and today houses the Sosnowiec Art Centre. Dietel Palace at Żeromskiego 2a was the Neo-Baroque residence of a manufacturing family; it is a listed monument, and some of its reception rooms survive.

Franz Schön Palace at 1 Maja 19 has served the justice system as a district court since the 1920s; back in 1919 it was the headquarters of the Silesian Uprising. Wilhelm's Palace of 1900 in Środula, Neo-Baroque, is one of the two palaces of the Schön complex, next to Ernst Schön's palace. You can read about the two families in the article Pałace i mauzoleum sosnowieckich przemysłowców: Dietel i Schön.
