Places for couples in Żabnica: a hike up Rysianka, nights in meadow lodges, quiet Cukiernica Wyżna and the Borucz glade in the Żywiec Beskids.
All of them lie in the hills above the village, so they are suggestions for a shared day on the trail rather than for touring interiors. Two places offer a bed, two are meadows and one is a peak.
For a summit go up Rysianka, and for quiet to the Borucz meadow. The first offers a goal and a lodge on the way, the second is a wide glade without crowds.
Rysianka is 1,322 m above sea level and lies in the Żywiec-Orawa Beskids. It is a junction of three ridges, and the border between Złatna and Żabnica runs over its top. On the north-eastern slope lies a scenic meadow with a PTTK lodge and a large trail junction, and nearby the Pod Rysianką nature reserve. The peak rises above three valleys, so on a clear day it makes a good shared goal for a hike.
Borucz meadow is a wide glade on the ridge of the Borucz peak, also called Ostry. Despite the name it is not a classic grazing meadow: it covers old farmland and meadows once worked by the village of Cisiec. Shepherd huts stand here, and a downhill track runs across the glade.
The PTTK Mountain Hut on Hala Boracza stands on a pass at about 854 m above sea level at Boracza 22. In the 1920s the first building was put up by “Makkabi”, a Jewish sports club from Bielsko, and Romanka can be seen from the area.
The Słowianka Tourist Station is a private place on a meadow at 856 m above sea level, in a two-storey wooden building. It sleeps 24, with a communal kitchen and a shop selling groceries and hot drinks.
Cukiernica Wyżna is an old grazing meadow on the eastern side of the northern ridge of Redykalny Wierch, near the Boracza stream. It is no longer grazed and is gradually being overgrown by forest, unlike neighbouring Cukiernica Niżna. Three trails run nearby, and the meadow belongs to Żabnica, in the Węgierska Górka commune. It is a spot for couples who prefer a hike without a crowd to busy summits.
