Cemeteries and monuments in Brynów and Zgrzebnioka estate: garrison and Soviet cemeteries, plus Kościuszko and Alpinists monuments.

Four places in one district of Katowice, three of them in Kościuszko Park. They call for quiet and composure rather than haste.

What cemeteries and monuments does Brynów in Katowice have?

The garrison cemetery by Meteorologów and Ceglana streets was laid out in the 1920s where prisoners of war had been buried since 1917. Silesian insurgents lie here, and there are war graves too. Kościuszko Park preserves a separate Red Army soldiers' cemetery, a war necropolis entered in the register of monuments, where soldiers killed in the city in 1945 were buried.

In the same park you will see two monuments. The Tadeusz Kościuszko Monument is an obelisk with a medallion; its plaque dates from 1925, and it has stood on its present spot since 1962. The Alpinists' Monument recalls eight mountaineers linked with the Katowice high-mountain club who died in the hills. A broader picture of the district comes from the page for Brynów-Osiedle Zgrzebnioka with its churches and monasteries, while necropolises of other towns are collected in cemeteries and monuments in Silesia.
