Churches in Brynów and Zgrzebnioka Estate in Katowice: the wooden St Michael's, the miners' memorial church for Wujek and the modern Dawn of Freedom church.

Three churches in one Katowice district date from three different eras: the early 16th century, the 1980s and the turn of the millennium.

Which church in Brynów is the oldest?

St Michael the Archangel's Church at Kościuszki 103 is a wooden building from around 1510, raised in Syrynia near Wodzisław Śląski. Taken apart in 1938, it was reassembled on Beata Hill in Kościuszko Park. It is the oldest building in Katowice and has belonged to the Katowice History Museum since 1997.

Which churches came later?

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross at Piękna 8 went up between 1982 and 1989. Parishioners worship here, and the building also serves as a memorial to the miners killed at the Wujek mine on 16 December 1981, when the strike there was put down.

The Church of Our Lady Immaculate, Dawn of Freedom at Gawronów 20 was designed by Andrzej Gałkowski and took from 1993 to 2001 to build. The complex includes a rotunda, a bell tower and an amphitheatre. Archbishop Damian Zimoń performed the consecration on 25 September 2001.
