Jaworzno on a rainy day: the city museum in a former mining building, a library with a gallery and café, and GEOsfera in a former quarry.

When the weather turns, Jaworzno still has somewhere to go. Two places here are indoors, while GEOsfera is largely open air, so it is better saved for a break in the clouds.

Where can you go in Jaworzno when it rains?

The Jaworzno City Museum has operated since 1972 and since 1986 has occupied a former mining building at Pocztowa 5. Its rooms cover the story of the town and its mines, the Jewish community of Jaworzno and the old village life of the surroundings.

The Municipal Public Library dates from 1949. Since 2007 the main branch has been in a purpose-built building on the Main Market Square, number 17, which also holds an art gallery, a café and rooms used for film screenings.

GEOsfera covers about 8 hectares in the hollow of the old Sadowa Góra quarry, where Triassic limestone was extracted. Visitors follow a geology trail and meet dinosaurs rebuilt at full size, then reach a sensory garden, a brine tower and a playground. With children, go after the rain.

For other weather see what to do in Silesia in the rain, and for the town things to do in Jaworzno.

Frequently asked questions

Which places in Jaworzno are indoors?

The City Museum and the library on the Market Square. The museum uses a former mining building, the library a new one from 2007.

Is GEOsfera a good idea for a rainy day?

Not during a downpour, since most of it is outdoors. It works better the day after rain.
