For couples in Mikołów: a salt graduation tower close to the old market square and two marked PTTK hiking trails for longer walks.
Mikołów combines a calm centre with forests on the edge of the conurbation. For two it means either a short rest in town or a longer walk along a trail that partly runs through the commune.
The salt graduation tower is found on Małe Planty, in the Centrum district, a step from the old square. Locals voted for it in the 2018 participatory budget, and it has welcomed walkers since 2021. Around it are an open-air gym and a play area. Such towers are covered in a piece on salt towers and pump rooms.
A longer walk is offered by the Defenders of the Polish Border Trail. Blue PTTK marks lead about 61 km from Zabrze-Makoszowy to Tychy-Paprocany, and within Mikołów the way goes by Śmiłowice and Paniowy.
The other option is the Parachute Tower Heroes Trail, red and about 39 km long. It remembers the defenders of Katowice from September 1939, starting in Katowice and finishing in Chudów. Its purpose is commemorative, so walk it in a reflective mood.
Dates and strolls elsewhere in the region are suggested by the section for couples in Silesia, and local spots sit under Mikołów.
