pond in a former sand pit in the Panewniki Forests with a bathing area after a 2023 revitalisation

Scenic views in Mikołów: the Starganiec pond on the edge of the Panewniki Forests and two marked PTTK hiking trails.

Mikołów lies right by the border with Katowice, and its woods and water suit a walk. The three places here combine water, forest and long trails.

Where should you look for scenic spots in Mikołów?

Starganiec is a body of water filling an old sand excavation, roughly 220 by 180 m. A 2023 revitalisation brought back swimming open to everyone, and PTTK routes pass nearby. The leisure site was once run by the Baildon works.

The Parachute Tower Heroes Trail is marked in red for around 39 km between Katowice and Chudów, crossing Brynów, Ligota and the Panewniki Forests. It honours the defence of Katowice in September 1939, so treat it as a memorial walk. These events are covered in a piece on September 1939 in Wyry, Mikołów and Katowice.

The blue Defenders of the Polish Border Trail covers about 61 km linking Zabrze-Makoszowy with Tychy-Paprocany. Inside Mikołów it touches Śmiłowice and Paniowy.

Viewpoints across the rest of the region are gathered in scenic views in Silesia, and local suggestions in Mikołów.
