Industrial heritage in Świętochłowice: a water tower of 1909 and the steel headframes of the former Polska colliery on Wojska Polskiego street.
Three sites show two pillars of the town's earlier industry: coal mining and water supply. Two belong to one colliery complex, and the third stands in the centre.
The former Polska colliery complex now means the historic headframes of shafts I and II at Wojska Polskiego 16, both listed. The colliery started work in 1873 and belonged to Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck. It changed its name more than once: Deutschland, then Niemcy, and from 1937 Polska.
The shaft I headframe is a steel structure dating from 1908. It joined the register of monuments in 2004.
The water tower on Katowicka street is Neo-Baroque and 40 metres tall. It went up in 1909, with a steel tank of the Klönne type on top, unusual in Poland. The building was made for a water association founded in 1904 to serve Świętochłowice and the Bismarckhütte works.
No. In 1972 it was joined to the Prezydent colliery and later closed. The shaft towers remain.
Look at the monuments and the cemeteries and monuments. Similar places in the region are industrial heritage in Silesia; the town: Świętochłowice.
