Monuments in Szopienice-Burowiec, Katowice: the water tower on Korczaka street, the Mokrski Brewery and the modernist town hall of 1927-1928.

Three monuments with brick and industrial roots show the former independence of Szopienice: zinc works, a brewery and the seat of the municipality.

What is linked to the zinc industry?

The water tower at Janusza Korczaka 47 is an Art Nouveau-modernist structure of 1911-1912, 68 metres high. It was built for the Georg von Giesches Erben zinc works and is entered on the monument register.

What about the brewery and the municipality?

The Mokrski Brewery at ks. bpa Herberta Bednorza 8 is a brick complex of 1879-1890. After destruction and a fire it was restored, and it now hosts the Browar Factory Centrum office and storage centre with a sculpture courtyard. Visitors mostly come to see how an industrial landmark was given a new use.

The Szopienice Town Hall at Wiosny Ludów 24 was built in 1927-1928 as the seat of the Szopienice municipality. It has four storeys above ground and one below. The design was most probably prepared by Tadeusz Michejda, and the building entered the monument register in 2020.
