Brenna on your own: a mountain hut on Błatnia, a viewing tower on Stary Groń, Karkoszczonka pass, a herb museum and churches in the Silesian Beskids.
Brenna suits solo trips: trails lead up to the ridges of the Silesian Beskids, and small museums and two churches wait in the valley. Each has its own pace, so a day can be arranged without company and without hurry.
Where to hike alone in the hills above Brenna
The highest point on the list is the PTTK Mountain Hut on Błatnia, which stands on the summit at an altitude of nearly 900 metres, within the limits of Brenna. It was built in 1925-1926 and has 50 beds, so it suits an overnight stop after a full day on the trail.
For a shorter walk choose the viewing tower on Stary Groń. The twelve-metre structure stands just below the summit (791 metres above sea level), and from the top you see the area. At a junction of trails lies Karkoszczonka pass, at 723 metres, on the boundary of Brenna and Szczyrk, between Trzy Kopce and Beskidek. Hiking routes meet here.
What to see in the valley and underground
When the weather does not invite you to the mountains, look into Beskidzki Dom Zielin "Przytulia". Inside, a herb museum shows through a multimedia display what herbs meant in the daily life of Silesian highlanders; outside grows a small herb garden. The Bat Observatory works in the building of Primary School No. 1. In summer you can see a bat colony living in the attic, and in the Strefa Nocy room learn about their lives.
Nature lovers can look for the Głęboka Cave in Stołów, a landslide cave discovered in 2003 on slopes that fall to the Brennica valley. It is 554 metres long.
Which churches in Brenna are worth seeing?
Two churches represent two traditions and two eras. The Baroque brick church of St John the Baptist, consecrated on 21 August 1796, has one nave, one tower and paintings by the Cieszyn painter Stanisław Jastrzembski. From 1985-1988 dates the Lutheran church of St Bartholomew the Apostle, designed by Edward Kisiel. It seats 300 people and belongs to the parish in Brenna-Górki.
More ideas for trips alone are gathered under solo places, and the rest of the village is covered by things to do in Brenna.
