Sport in Szczyrk: five places, from the ski resorts on Skrzyczne to the year-round Skalite ski jumping complex in the Silesian Beskids.
Szczyrk lies in the Silesian Beskids, and it is represented here mostly by its slopes. There are large resorts with lifts, a small slope for beginners and ski jumps that work all year. Each suits a different skill level and group size.
Where to ski in Szczyrk?
Two resorts on the slopes of Skrzyczne have the most runs: COS OPO with 12.5 km of downhill runs and Czyrna-Solisko with about 25 km.
The resort run by the Central Sports Centre lies on the northern side of Skrzyczne (1,257 m above sea level). Three chairlifts and a plate lift serve it, and the way up the mountain runs through Hala Jaworzyna. Cross-country skiers get four tracks, from 2.5 to 7.5 km. Czyrna-Solisko neighbours it on the side of Mały Skrzyczne and has two bottom stations: by the gondola in Czyrna and in Solisko. Its hardest runs include Bieńkula and Golgota. It is also a cycling resort.
Which slope to pick for a first go or with children?
For beginners and families there is Biały Krzyż on Grabowa Street, and Beskid Sport Arena is smaller and calmer than the rest.
Biały Krzyż has two drag lifts: Biały Krzyż, about three hundred metres long, and Bartuś, about two hundred. The run is gentle and wide, groomed, floodlit and fitted with snowmaking. Beskid Sport Arena in Szczyrk-Biła has a six-seat chairlift 750 metres long, two button lifts and four downhill runs. The operator stresses that it is smaller than other Szczyrk slopes, which means shorter queues.
Where to watch ski jumping?
The Skalite complex has three jumps on the northern slope of the peak of the same name, at 620 metres, with stands for 1,472 spectators.
The normal hill has a K95 construction point, the medium one K70 and the small one K40. All work year-round, and the venue has been named after the Beskid Olympians since 2018. Its operator is the Olympic Preparation Centre, part of the Central Sports Centre. A longer account of the region's slopes is in the article skiing in Szczyrk, the Żywiec region and Bielsko-Biała, and the village's history is told in Szczyrk: from a village to a ski resort. All places in town are on the Szczyrk page, and a wider list is sport and recreation in Silesia.
