Monuments in Żory: the medieval town walls, the palace in Baranowice with its park of ancient oaks and the former synagogue on Kościuszki street.
The three monuments span the Middle Ages to the 19th century and show different layers of the town's past: fortifications, a residence and a former house of prayer.
The defensive walls of the 13th and 14th centuries are brick fragments in the Gothic style, surviving along Ogrodowa and Męczenników Oświęcimskich streets. They rank among the oldest in Silesia and are listed as monuments.
The palace in Żory stands in Baranowice, today a district of the town, at Zamkowa 97. Emil von Durant remodelled the 17th-century building in the 19th century. In the 1990s it was a ruin; today it has been restored and is surrounded by a park with veteran oaks.
The former synagogue at Tadeusza Kościuszki 3 was built in 1830-1835 on the site of an older one. The Germans wrecked the building thoroughly in the Second World War, and afterwards it was turned into the Znicz cinema.
