Atmospheric places in Sosnowiec: the Triangle of the Three Emperors, the Balaton reservoir in Porąbka and Centenary Square, called the Frying Pan.
Three places of different character: a reminder of old borders, a watery corner on the edge of town and a square by the station. Each tells a different chapter of Sosnowiec's story.
The Triangle of the Three Emperors lies where the Biała Przemsza flows into the Czarna Przemsza. In 1846-1915 the borders of the German, Austrian and Russian empires met here. Today the former tripoint is within Mysłowice and Sosnowiec.
Balaton in the Porąbka district is a reservoir of about 9.7 hectares, created when clay was dug for the brickworks of the Kazimierz-Juliusz mine. Today it is used mainly for relaxing by the water.
Centenary Square lies in the Śródmieście district, right by Sosnowiec Główny station. Nearby stands a monument to Jan Kiepura, unveiled in 2002, and an underground shopping passage runs beneath the square.
That is its colloquial name, and the square lies where Modrzejowska, Warszawska and 3 Maja streets meet.
