Catholic churches

St Clement's Church at Daszyńskiego 15 is late Baroque-Classicist, with a square tower with a clock. The building dates from 1788 and grew out of a rebuilt chapel of a one-time Jesuit orphanage; it has monument status.
The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Lipowiec, at Lipowska 135, was built in 1808-1810 as the third church in the village. Its single nave and single tower are topped off inside by a late Baroque altar of 1852.
Lutheran churches in Ustroń
The Church of St James the Elder at Kotschego 1 was built in 1835-1838 to a design by Florian Onderka. It has a classicist facade and a tower from 1856-1857, and next to it stand a former school, a vicarage and a Lutheran cemetery. A parish museum operates by the church.
The chapel in Dobka occupies a former school building from 1903 and is a branch of the parish. The Church of the Apostle Matthew on the Polana estate was built as a chapel in 1979-1983 on the initiative of local believers.
The Stone on Równica: a church without walls
The Stone on Równica is a flat boulder on the western slope of the mountain that served as an altar. In 1654-1709 Lutherans from Cieszyn Silesia held secret services here after their churches were taken from them. It is not a church but a forest memorial of faith, so reaching it means going out into the terrain.
How to plan the visit
The churches lie in different parts of town: Nierodzim, Lipowiec, Dobka and Polana are separate estates. It is easiest to choose two or three points for one day.
