For couples in Tarnowskie Góry: the market and old-town squares, Bobrowniki Quarry and two walking trails - six places for a shared outing.

Tarnowskie Góry grew out of ore mining and still has a compact old town that is pleasant to stroll through as a pair. Short routes run around the squares, and further out trails begin across former mining land. Outings for two across the whole region are collected under attractions for couples in Silesia, and the remaining sights of the town are covered in what to see in Tarnowskie Góry.

Where to stroll in the old town of Tarnowskie Góry?

Around three neighbouring squares, each with its own history: the Market Square, Gwarków Square and Freedom Square. The Market Square is the main square of the town, Gwarków Square is its oldest market, and Freedom Square is a rectangular pedestrian area with benches and trees.

The Market Square in Tarnowskie Góry is trapezoid, 108 m long. It is surrounded by miners' houses from the 16th and 17th centuries, arcaded townhouses and a town hall from 1896-1898. Gwarków Square is today a small paved square with a wooden miners' bell tower moved here in 1955 and the church of Saints Peter and Paul. Freedom Square, about 51 by 62 metres, was called Krakowskie Przedmieście until 1897, and an Art Nouveau furniture factory stands there.

The Society of Friends of Children Square, laid out in the 1960s as a playground at ul. Sienkiewicza and ul. Sobieskiego, is above all a place for families with children, so for a date the other squares are the better choice.

What to see in Tarnowskie Góry outside the centre?

If you fancy an outing, choose Bobrowniki Quarry, a disused dolomite pit with 70-metre walls. It operated from 1903 until the 1990s, and the space it left is popularly called the Great Canyon of Tarnowskie Góry. It lies on the border of Tarnowskie Góry and Bytom, by national road 11.

Which walking trail to choose in Tarnowskie Góry?

There are two marked PTTK trails, both starting in the town. The longer one is the Miners' Trail, yellow, about 26 km, which runs from the town to Kolonia Woźnicka, passing Miasteczko Śląskie and Lake Nakło-Chechło. The shorter one is the Segiet Trail, black, 12.3 km, which starts in Segiet and ends in Pniowiec, passing the Historic Silver Mine and the Market Square on the way.

The mining history on which the town grew is described in the articles The Historic Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry and Tarnowskie Góry: the Market Square, the mining school and the Miners' festival.
