Historic sights in Zawiercie include the ruins of Bąkowiec Castle in Morsko, a synagogue from 1880, the Art Nouveau Holenderski Villa and the director's villa.
Four buildings tell of a medieval castle in the Jura and of the days of the factories. For visitors who like architecture and sightsee alone.
Which historic sights in Zawiercie are worth seeing?
The oldest are the ruins of Bąkowiec Castle, also called the castle in Morsko, on the Tygrys rock in Skarżyce, a district of Zawiercie, on the Eagles' Nests Trail. The industrial past is shown by two buildings from the decades around 1900: the brick director's villa from 1897 at Szymańskiego 2, put up to house the head of the "Zawiercie" joint-stock company, today with a library and a memory room, and the Art Nouveau Holenderski Villa at 3 Maja 25, a villa with a garden from before the First World War.
At Marszałkowska 41 stands the synagogue from 1880. Worship has ended there; the structure has been greatly changed and awaits repair, so it is seen from outside. Other places in town are gathered under Zawiercie, among the churches and monasteries and parks and nature; more buildings appear under historic sights in Silesia. The story of the town is told in the article Zawiercie: a town of railways and factories.
