Atmospheric places in Żywiec: the Market Square, Mariacki and Grunwaldzki squares, and Wilczy Jar, a ravine with a bridge.
Four places for an evening walk for two: three in the very centre of town and one in the Oczków district. Each has its own character.
Where to take an evening walk in Żywiec?
The most classic point is the Market Square in Żywiec, a medieval chartered square beneath Grojec mountain, probably established in the earlier part of the fifteenth century. It is a regular quadrangle ringed by tenement houses, with the Magistrat. Not far away lies Mariacki Square, given its present look in 1968, when the town marked seven centuries, and now an important public transport hub.
Grunwaldzki Square is above all a roundabout with a small green square and the rebuilt Grunwald Monument with an eagle, located in the city centre. Wilczy Jar has an entirely different mood: a ravine in the Oczków district, over which runs a reinforced-concrete bridge from 1964, while from below a difficult descent leads to Lake Żywiec. For planning a walk also useful are historic sights in Żywiec, parks and nature and museums; the whole town is described under Żywiec, and similar places in the region under atmospheric places in Silesia.
