Music in Silesia has five addresses, from NOSPR and the Spodek in Katowice to the philharmonics in Zabrze and Częstochowa and the House of Music and Dance.

The overview points to places where concerts are heard in well-known buildings: a modern symphonic hall, a concert arena, a modernist culture house and a former library. It works as a plan for an evening in town or a concert-themed trip, and the programmes of individual venues are in the event calendar. The wider group is covered under music in Silesia.

Where in Silesia can you hear a symphonic concert?

Four halls in three cities suit classical music, and each building has its own story.

The seat of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra stands on Plac Wojciecha Kilara in the Katowice Culture Zone, next to the Silesian Museum and the Spodek. Construction ran from 2012 to 2014. Outside, the brick building recalls Nikiszowiec, and the main hall receives about eighteen hundred listeners. In Zabrze the Zabrze Philharmonic, founded in 1950 as the Miners' Philharmonic of the Miners' Trade Union, has occupied since 2010 a building of 1911, the former Donnersmarck Library.

In the same city the House of Music and Dance on de Gaulle'a Street is a modernist building opened on 4 December 1959. The auditorium is one of the biggest in Poland and has a reputation for good acoustic parameters. Charity concerts have been organised here since 1992.

Where in Częstochowa can you hear classical music?

The Bronisław Huberman Częstochowa Philharmonic is on Wilsona Street, in a modernist building of 1955-1965. The building stands on the foundations of the New Synagogue. Inside are two concert halls, and the institution is also known in the city for a violin festival.

Where in Silesia can you see a large concert arena?

For a wider audience and large shows there is the Spodek in the Koszutka district of Katowice, on Korfantego Avenue. Maciej Gintowt and Maciej Krasiński designed it, construction lasted from 1964 to 1971, and the opening fell on 8 May 1971. Its form is an inverted cone, and its structure also contains an ice rink and a pool, and the whole is regarded as a symbol of Katowice.
